Welcome Plainfield District 202 Parents
Trying To Select A Musical Instrument Dealer for your Instrument Rental Needs ?
Our rental pages contain lots of valuable information about our rental program and about rental programs in general.
If you have been through this before you know a lot about this process. If this is your first time, we recommend that you read everything you can, talk to your friends and neighbors who have been through this before, and get ready for a period of confusion before the dust settles and the path to the right decision for your family becomes clear.
First, I would like to start with what is probably the most important thing to keep in mind as you go through the process of "selecting your music vendor”.
Plainfield District 202 is very clear in their position regarding music vendors that have been placed on “the list”. Here is their official position as quoted from their official handout at orientation.
" For the convenience of the school community, the above list is provided by District #202 for informational purposes only. The companies and individuals listed above are independent entities. They are not in any way affiliated with or sponsored, recommended or endorsed by Plainfield CCSD #202, and the District is not responsible for arrangements entered into between families and vendors. revised 8/15/07".
So there you have it. "Not recommended and not responsible". They are however providing parents with a list of vendors for convenience but they are not recommending or endorsing them (the 3 listed vendors). You should therefore conclude that the District 202 wants you, as a parent to be free to make the best decision for your family. They are also telling you that they are not responsible for any deal you might make with them (the 3 listed vendors). If you read between the lines, they might actually be trying to tell you that there might be a better deal out there, and actually there is. It’s us- Naperville Music.
Did you know that some school vendors actually charge different rates at different districts? Did you know that there is some very creative marketing going on this year? For example, did you know that according to some vendors’ literature and websites, the insurance fee is not quoted or included in the prices that they are quoting for introductory periods? So what you say- well that could raise the introductory period cost by as much as $20. They very likely are not including it in the renewal rate either, and that could add as much as $6 per month- or over $72 per year to your cost. Is there anything wrong with that? Probably not really, but why not just include it in the price they quote you? You guessed the reason- their price would be too high.
Be prepared- you will be under pressure to rent from one of the vendors who is sitting in the school. Take your time. Think about it first. Think of a high pressure sales presentation- then double the pressure. That’s what you will be up against. A table full of professional closers- pitted against the unsuspecting parent.
Remember, you’re about to enter into a business agreement with a vendor. District 202 refers to it as an "arrangement". But some of the vendors won’t tell you the cost- until they push the paper and pen at you. There is a reason that they haven’t told you their prices. They want you to find out at the last possible minute- when you are under a lot of pressure to- just do it. Cool heads should prevail. Guess what- there are plenty of instruments. No one is going to run out.
We recommend you take the literature from those 3 listed (but not recommended) vendors and then, in the peace and quiet of your home over the next few days – compare all the programs – including ours. When you are done, you will know why in the past we have been the second largest provider of instruments to the district and why we were able to accomplish that strictly by providing quality instruments at great prices. Of course the personal endorsement of happy and satisfied customers always helps. And we work very hard to be sure that everyone has a great experience with us. Be sure to check out our testimonials.
