WHY PEARL RIVER IS THE WORLD’S BEST SELLING PIANO
Pearl River is the World’s Best Selling Piano, sold in over 100 countries worldwide. The Pearl River name has become a symbol of quality in the music industry, and a supplier of instruments to many retailers and even other manufacturers, who can depend on Pearl River for reliable, high quality, and great sounding instruments!

Total Control Over Manufacturing
While many brands of pianos are now made in facilities foreign to their headquarters, Pearl River has for their 60 year history always controlled every step of the manufacturing process, from the selection of woods, the crafting of actions, soundboards, wet sand-cast plates, and every other integral part of the piano. This control ensures a consistently high quality piano true to the exact scale-design, and is a leading reason Pearl River became the World’s best selling piano.

Highest Quality, Seasoned Hardwoods
While others often use less costly woods - “select hardwoods” - in their “consumer grade” pianos, Pearl River uses only the best woods for each application in every piano we make.
Our Grand Piano rims are made from Walnut, a dense hardwood that allows for our lower tension scale design. Lower tension scale design results in a warmer, richer tone and longer sustain., and are used in the world’s finest pianos. Our bridges and pin-blocks are crafted from Rock Maple, and our Lothar Thomma tapered soundboards from close grained, high quality northern Spruce (100%) The use of high quality woods is critical when making high quality musical instruments, and Pearl River’s expertise with quality wood shows in every model bearing our name,

Acclimatized for Worldwide Markets
Pearl River takes pride in using state-of-the-art Kilns to dry our woods. However there is much more to “seasoning” woods than that. Both before and after the kiln drying, woods are expertly cured over time to specific moisture contents, which when done correctly reduces the natural tendancy for wood to swell and contract with humidity fluctuation. With over 8,000 moving parts, a piano’s woods must be “seasoned” to ensure reliability wherever the piano ends up living!

Wet Sand Cast Plates
The foundation of a piano is the plate whose strength supports the incredible tension placed by the strings on the instrument. Ritmüller uses the finest quality pig iron, named after its shape after being melted in foundries then poured into wet sand molds.
Pearl River relies on this method for every piano we make. Wet sand-cast plates provide more mass for strength, and do not produce undesirable harmonic feedback like vacuum processed plates. Wet sand cast plates are used in the World’s finest pianos.
Because of Pearl River’s advanced frame design and classic sand-casting technology our new iron frames possess exceptionally strong tensile strength and bending resistance, which adds to the piano’s overall stability and helps to eliminate undesirable harmonic feedback unlike vacuum process plates. Typically used by other piano builders only in their most expensive models, Ritmüller relies on sand-casting method for every piano we make.

Vertically Laminated Maple Bridges
A piano’s bridge is of vital importance to the tone of a good piano. The bridge transfers sound from the strings to the soundboard, and it is crowned to match the crown of the soundboard. The convex crown of the soundboard is what produces tone, so the integrity of the bridge will affect the longevity of a piano’s tone. Our bridges are vertically laminated layers of maple, and are capped with solid maple wood. Vertically laminated bridges provide superior strength and durability, and are found on the world’s finest pianos.

Tapered Soundboards
The soundboard of a piano is its voice. The careful selection of wood and the design of each piano’s soundboard is crucial in creating a piano’s tone. Pearl River’s 100% close-grained spruce soundboards are tapered, allowing improved flexibility. The freedom of movement of our Lothar Thomma designed tapered soundboards provides for greater dynamic range and improved sustain.

Cut-Thread Tuning Pins
Multi-ply Hard Rock Maple Pinblocks
Cut-Thread Tuning Pins
Pearl River pianos use “cut-thread” tuning pins, a superior method to “stamping” the thread as some manufacturers do. “Cut-thread” tuning pins provide more precision and control to the technician, allowing for a better and longer lasting tuning.
Multi-ply Hard Rock Maple Pinblocks
The quality of a piano’s pinblock will determine it’s tuning stability. Pearl River employs the best hard “rock maple” wood, arranged in layers of alternating grain directions designed to grip our nickel-plated tuning pins firmly and hold them in place. Our quality pinblocks mean that your piano will stay in tune longer, the importance of which cannot be understated.

German Felt:
German Felt:
Quality felt is important when making quality pianos. Pearl River hammers are made with high quality felt from the most respected German felt manufacturers like Wurzen™ , resulting in superior tone and durability. Inferior felt can result in disappointing sound and unpredictable durability over time.

Genuine Ebony Sharps
Pearl River pianos feature genuine ebony sharps. Real ebony sharps are highly valued for their tactile performance and extreme durability. Unlike plastic, ebony's natural porosity absorbs finger moisture, providing a superior grip and a "cooler" touch that prevents slipping during intense play. Its exceptional density also makes it highly resistant to the wear and chipping that can occur over decades of use.

Exceptional Value
Pearl River is widely considered the best value in acoustic pianos because
it combines high-volume, state-of-the-art manufacturing with premium materials—like German felt and spruce soundboards—at a significantly lower price point than Japanese or European competitors. As the world's largest manufacturer, they offer superior, consistent quality control in an affordable, durable package suitable for students and professionals alike.
Key reasons for Pearl River's value include:
-
Manufacturing Efficiency & Quality: Operating the world's largest piano factory, Pearl River uses advanced, automated technology for precision, resulting in consistent build quality.
