2000's Gibson J-185 Custom

The Gibson J-185, introduced in the early 1950s, is a slightly smaller sibling to the legendary J-200, designed to deliver the same powerful projection in a more comfortable body size. The 2000’s reissues stay true to the original design, offering a balanced blend of clarity, warmth, and Gibson’s signature acoustic character.

Pre-Owned

Key Features:

  • Body Style: Jumbo (slightly smaller than the J-200 for easier handling)

  • Top: Solid Sitka spruce for articulate highs and dynamic response

  • Back & Sides: Flamed maple for bright, punchy projection with striking visual appeal

  • Neck: Mahogany with a comfortable rounded profile

  • Fingerboard: Rosewood with iconic mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays

  • Scale Length: 24.75" for a smooth, easy feel

  • Bridge: Traditional rosewood “belly-up” bridge with MOP moustache inlays

  • Binding: Multi-ply top and back binding for classic Gibson elegance

  • Finish: High-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer (commonly natural or sunburst)

  • Country of Manufacture: USA

With its articulate highs, focused mids, and rich low-end presence, the Gibson J-185 has long been a favorite for strummers and fingerstyle players alike. The 2000’s reissue preserves that heritage while offering the craftsmanship and tone players expect from Gibson acoustics.
